PRAGUE - TOP 5 REASONS TO VISIT

Prague has become one of the most popular destinations to visit in Europe. It holds majestic castles, cobblestone streets, amazing people and a lot to do! Unlike many other cities in Europe, Prague did not take as severe destruction in the second world war. This has allowed the preservation of some of the most striking gothic and renaissance architecture.

While summarising what to do for this list will challenging, I will highlight my personal favourite top 5 favourite things to do

 The Astronomical Clock

Without a doubt, the most unique Tourist attraction to visit is the Astronomical Clock. This clock is built on one of the faces of the Old Town Hall Tower residing in the Old Town Square. The medieval clock was built in the 15th Century and is a true masterpiece. Its intricate details are appreciated by masses of tourists on the hour between 09:00 to 23:00 to see the procession of the Twelve Apostles. This involves a show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures.

Prague Castle 🏰

It is widely recorded that Prague castle hosts the largest castle area in the World. The castle was founded in the region of 880 by Prince Borivoj. The sheer size of the castle is breathtaking and the same applies within the castle!

To get to the castle by foot you have three options: Walk up Nerudova Street, the Castle Steps or the Old Castle Steps. Either of these options is a great way to burn some calories. If you choose to save your energy, then you can also take tram 22 to the Castle! To book a walking tour including admission, tickets prices are around £32.

 The John Lennon Wall

If you are a fan of the Beatles, then this is a tourist attraction that is worth a stop. Located in Mala Strana, it was previously known as the ‘crying wall’ used for protesting the communist takeover. After John Lennon’s passing, many Czechs expressed their grief and protest against his death. Today you will find pictures of Lennon and many of the Beatles lyrics on the wall. While the wall has become subject to graffiti and drunken tourists in recent years it still stands as a symbol of freedom and free speech to this day.

Have a taste of TrdelnΓk

A delicious street food staple in Prague is the Trdelnik. This food is a traditional Slovak rolled pastry originating from Transylvania. This is usually served warm and topped with a dusting of sugar, nuts or cinnamon. This food is found easily in all the street food stalls and costs around about £1. It compliments a cold winters day exceptionally well πŸ‘

Go up the Petrin Lookout Tower

Do you fancy a view overlooking the entire city? Then this is an absolute must-do to tick of your Prague bucket list. The tower was inspired by the Eiffel Tower and was built back in 1891. The tower has 299 stairs to climb and stands proudly at 63.5m in height. If you fancy going up the tower it is very reasonable and costs around £1.70 for the adult price. It will take about an hour of your time and is 100% worth it!
